Aviation Brigade
The 1st Aviation Brigade was activated in Vietnam on May 25, 1966 using the assets of a provisional unit that had been organized on March 1, 1966.The brigade was headquartered at Tan Son Nhut until December 1967 when it moved to Long Binh. In December 1972 the brigade moved back to Tan Son Nhut until it departed Vietnam on March 28, 1973.
Aviation Groups
The FALCON Aviation Group (Provisional) was activated in Vietnam in September 1967. The unit was located at An Son.
The 11th Aviation Group arrived in Vietnam in August 1965 and was organic to the 1st Cavalry Division (Air Mobile) until April 10, 1972 when the unit was assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade.The unit was located at An Khe with the 1st Cavalry Division unitl April 1972, when it moved to Da Nang.
The 12th Aviation Group was formed in Vietnam on August 28, 1965 from the U.S. Army Aviation Group (Provincial) which had been formed in April 1965. The unit was located at Tan Son Nhut until June 29, 1966 when it moved to Long Binh.
The 16th Aviation Group was activated in Vietnam on December 20, 1967 from assets of the FALCON Aviation Group. The unit was located at Da Nang.
The 17th Aviation Group was activated in Vietnam on Decemeber 15, 1965. The unit was located at Nha Trang until November 1970 when it moved to Tuy Hoa.
The 164th Aviation Group was activated in Vietnam on December 20, 1967 from assets of the DELTA Aviation Group (Provisional). The unit was located at Can Tho.
The 165th Aviation Group was activated in Vietnam on February 17, 1969 and took over the functions of the 58th Aviation Battalion. The unit was located at Long Binh.
Aviation Battalions
The I Corps Aviation Battalion (Provisional) was activated in Vietnam in June 1966 to provide aerial reconaissance to the I Corps Tactical Zone.
The PHANTHOM Aviation Battalion (Provisional) was activated in Vietnam on September 20, 1967. The unit was located at Can Tho.
The 1st Aviation Battalion (Divisional) was organic to the 1st Infantry Division and was located with division headquarters.
The 13th Aviation Battalion (Combat) was activated on September 30, 1964 using assets from the DELTA Aviation Battalion (Provisional) and assigned to the 12th Aviation Group. On July 30, 1966 the battalion was placed under direct 1st Aviation Brigade control. In December 1967 it was assigned to the DELTA Aviation Group (Provisional) and on December 20, 1967 it was assigned to the 164th Aviation Group.The unit was located at Can Tho and Soc Trang.
The 210th Aviation Battalion (Combat) was partially formed from the assets of the CAPITAL Aviation Battalion in Vietnam ob April 2, 1967.The unit was located at Tan Son Nhut, on January 15, 1968 the unit was assigned to the 12th Aviation Group and moved to Long Than.
The 212th Aviation Battalion (Combat) arrived in Vietnam on July 30, 1967 from Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. The unit was assigned to the FALCON Aviation Group (Provisional) until January 1968 when it was assigned to the 16th Aviation Group. In July 1971 the unit was assigned to the 11th Aviation Group.The unit was located at Da Nang.
The 222d Aviation Battalion (Combat Support) was formed in Vietnam on May 25, 1966 from the Fixed Wing Battalion (Provisional) which had been formed on Feburary 15, 1966. The unit was located at Vung Tau until December 1968 when it moved to Bear Cat.
The 223d Aviation Battalion (Combat Support) was activated in Vietnam on May 15, 1966 assigned to the 17th Aviation Group. In September 1966 the unit was assigned to the FALCON Aviation Group (Provisional). In December 1966 the unit was assigned to the 17th Aviation Group where it remained until July 1971 when it was assigned to the 11th Aviation Group.The unit was located at Qui Nhon until March 1971 when it moved to Dong Ha.
The 307th Aviation Battalion was formed in Vietnam on December 20, 1967 and assigned to the 164th Aviation Group, using part of the assets of the PHANTHOM Aviation Battalion (Provisional). The unit was located at Can Tho.
